Italian Diction from the Land of Verdi

Specialist in Italian diction, Clélia Giacomuzzi now teaches in France. Her parents are originally from Friuli, near Venice. At the age of 5, Clélia went to live in Italy, in a small medieval village, 40 kilometers from Parma, in the family home. She stayed there for several years, then returned to live in France in 1977.

She studied Italian at the University of Savoie in Chambéry, then spent a year in Turin, obtaining a binational Franco-Italian master's degree from the University of Savoie in Chambéry and the "Università di Lingue e Letterature Straniere Moderne" in Turin.

She also lived for a year in Florence, where she was a French language assistant in a Hotel School.

Opera and Italian: Act and Song

Today, she mainly teaches Italian at secondary school level in the Academy of Besançon, and also works with IUT Gaco students, as well as ADIO license students in Montbéliard in Franche-Comté.

Italian Pronunciation in Opera

For the past year, Clélia Giacomuzzi has been involved in an interdisciplinary project focusing on the different forms of engagement through Opera.

She is now an Italian coach and Italian teacher at the Toniutti School of Lyric Art. There she provides private lessons and group courses in Italian diction and Italian pronunciation.

Specialist in Italian Diction in Verdi

Specialist in Verdi's repertoire, she translates the books and arias from opera librettos, as well as Italian cantatas.

Translation of Italian Opera Librettos

In preparation for productions, complete roles, or recitals, Clélia prepares singers for high-level Italian diction and pronunciation, while translating the librettos to ensure their full comprehension. The artist offers the audience a complete interpretation, supported by a total understanding of the libretto and the language.

A Tailored Italian Pronunciation Course and Translation

Clélia assesses your needs based on your commitments and productions.

The Italian that Clélia speaks is the one she learned in the Parma region, where she attended primary school, not far from Busseto, the birthplace of Giuseppe Verdi.

Online Translations

At the request of artists, Clélia Giacomuzzi provides audio files of operas and translations of arias and/or librettos.

The Italian Diction Course by Clélia Giacomuzzi

"As an Italian teacher, I regularly work with opera singers; together we prepare their Italian repertoire, whether from opera or sacred music. I ensure that the artists have proper pronunciation, along with a translation of the entire pieces. At the request of the singer or singing teacher Adeline Toniutti, the Italian coaching takes place before the scenic and theatrical work. The session is dedicated to correct diction and understanding of the sung text, without the lyric voice. Once the text is mastered, the singer can then fully dedicate themselves to vocal technique, style, and scenic work with the coach and stage director.

The teachers at the School of Lyric Art and the members of CALYP consider that upstream language learning with a specialist is essential for professionals and amateurs wishing to deliver a quality artistic performance. Adeline Toniutti asked me to join the EIALT and the Centre d'Art Lyrique de Paris to provide private and group lessons to lyric singers, because language teaching by a specialist coach complements both vocal technique courses and coaching sessions with the répétiteur."
